Getting Social

Getting Social

Whether you are a freelance writer, designer, consultant, marketing affiliate or IT pro there is one thing all freelancers have in common…all are continuously seeking opportunities. Many newbies focus on an opportunity as landing a paid gig. There is nothing wrong with feeling this way. We all want to earn a living. But broadening this focus beyond just landing a job can lead you to great places and be in great company.

Social websites such as Twitter, LinkedIn and Facebook have become integral parts of today’s entrepreneur. Though some will pay you to socialize, like Yuwie, these websites allow its members to do more. Some of the most successful and creative individuals can be found tweeting knowledge and twittering with others around the globe. Much can be learned from just getting involved. But just as important is sharing your knowledge and being open to new ideas while fostering professional supportive relationships in the process. So expand your focus while building your brand. Get connected, get social!

Make It Happen!

Make It Happen!

So many times you can get so focused on things you think are not possible and forget that all things are possible. When there is a goal in your mind, the process has already begun to make it happen. People tend to get stuck or sidetracked keeping them from reaching their goals. Your mind is very powerful. Allowing other people or things to influence your thought process will have an effect on the outcome of what you want to happen.

Whether you want to do your first 10k walk, go back to college, become a successful writer or start your own business….go for it and stick with it! Leave the naysayers talking to themselves and network with likeminded individuals. You have already placed yourself in the position to achieve. Remember it’s all in your mind.

Have A Wonderful Day!

To Telecommute or Freelance

To Telecommute or Freelance

I recently had another conversation with my sister in Florida on telecommuting. In recent months her company has decided to embrace telecommuting in their commercial claims division. As one of the largest insurance companies in the country their adjusters, and most of the sales force, have always worked remotely. So not being new to the concept they anticipate much success with this new addition to those working remotely. They have been very selective in choosing who is being allowed to participate to get things going. With Sis being one of the top claims pros in the past 15 years she was one of the first choices. Hesitant at first she accepted to see if this she will like it.

Telecommuting, working from home, working virtual and telework are just a few of the phrases used to describe today's workforce that performs their assigned duties outside of the traditional brick and mortar environment. Taking this avenue to make a living is nothing new, it is just becoming more common than in the past. Over the years many companies have allowed their more seasoned and trusted employees the option of working from a home office for part of the work week. Then there are professionals that have always worked from home as freelancers as writers, medical transcriptionists, event planners, business consultants, sales agents and more.

Working from home can be a wonderful and productive work experience but is not for everyone. Some individuals that have taken the plunge have come to realize that working away from the company of others is not their gig. As a telecommuter, though you are basically working alone, there is a lot to consider. Being able to work independently, staying productive and managing time well are very important. These things may not be as difficult when working under the guidance of a company. Many things are provided as if you were still in an onsite office like a computer, desk, chair, supplies, technical support, benefits and a consistent workflow. When freelancing it is up to you to have everything you need to operate efficiently. As far as work flow being active in seeking legitimate opportunities and promoting yourself is vital to your level of success. Before coming to a final decision it is important to do research and ask questions. Joining an online community for telecommuters or freelancers can be very informative. If you are looking seriously at these options to supplement income or make a living full-time stay informed, work hard and enjoy!
